Challenge: newScale asked Kindle to develop a content-intensive product demo to highlight their Request Center product's features and benefits while showcasing the ease of use of the product. Request Center itself is a highly involved internal service delivery product that features multiple modules and a myriad of tools to demonstrate. newScale hoped to use the demo both as an online tutorial for potential customers and as a sales presentation tool. So how to make a screenshot-based tutorial on a complicated topic compelling enough to intrigue potential customers, all the while keeping the technical limitations of a 30-minute demo in check? Approach: Starting with content outlines and theme development, we created a story concept that could hold all of the content together. 14 script revisions later, we had a 30-minute action and voice over script. Storyboards helped us solidify the final flow, and the graphic designs that we developed for the demo were both unique and totally in keeping with newScale's existing brand identity. Technically, we tackled the capture and edit of the product screens, animated cursor movements to indicate action and created a User Interface that was clean, easy-to-use and a perfect complement to the graphical elements on display. The Voice Over was recorded, compressed and synched perfectly to the action. The final product included a marketing introduction that highlighted the high-level benefits of the product, and in-depth product screens that showcased the features and tools of the product in action. Result: newScale was delighted with their new sales tool. Built in Flash and optimized for web delivery, the 30-minute demo was able to play directly from their website with little difficulty. By immersing ourselves in the product and in a sense, becoming Request Center advocates and salespeople ourselves, we were able to devise the best plan of attack for introducing this complicated product to a new user. In addition to being one of the longest demos we have every created, newScale's product demo delves more deeply into the product's features and communicates the product's benefits better than any other product demo we've seen on the web. |
